Well here we are in 2011, I know I keep saying that time is flying by. But it honestly really is, I have been in Paraguay for 11 months- with a short 2 week break celebrating Christmas and New Years in the United States of America! I had an absolutely wonderful vacation home, with only small mishaps of accidently missing my flight home and having to return 3 days later because there is just really no flight out of Asuncion! And then of course losing my luggage, but thankfully getting it in time to give all my Christmas gifts and teach all my family how to drink terere! That was a really special experience for me to show my family and friends the biggest and most important thing to Paraguayans. Terere is such a cultural identity for Paraguay, it was fun to teach and show my family just what is was all about. I got a couple of really great comments that made me smile- like UK (uncle Kent) and Uncle Ron thought there was tobacco in it, others thought it was grass, and Bri asked if we all had to share the same straw!! I really enjoyed my family time at home and just being all together. And of course the FOOD! I ate so ridiculously much, I gained a few pounds, but I don’t even care, it was totally worth it! I also really enjoyed a nice shower, throwing my toilet paper in the toilet, carpet, walking around without shoes on, cheese (thanks Nick Mattox!), good coffee, catching up on Glee, snow and beautiful days in Seattle with wonderful best friends!
But now that the States are out of site and I’m back in Paraguay it feels really good to be home! And I feel like I’m losing weight just sitting here… especially since I just sweat all day long. Its hot! Its definitely been over 100 degrees every day and I bet hotter than that in the afternoons. I’ve been drinking tons of water and trying to stay out of the sun. Its also taken me a little bit to adjust back to Paraguay time, I think my body still thinks it 5 hours earlier than it is. And so I cant get to bed at a normal time. But I also haven’t been sleeping because we’ve had lots of power outages, and that means no fan, which means I laying in bed awake and covered in sweat- its lovely! But its been fun catching up with friends and giving some gifts to people! And of course hangin with Tutti, who is a monster! Shes grown a ton and just loves to run around and play… she also loves to bring in dead birds with intestines hangin out and an incredibly horrible smell- yeah pets!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I have brought back a web camera with me and now have full skype abilities and I hope that everyone would add me, I would love to see your smiling faces. And I can give you a live feed of my life in Paraguay, my house, Tutti… whatever is happening! My skype name is scross21.
I wish everyone a full and prosperous 2011!
